Lahaina and the Banyan Tree

After taking in all the sun that our snow white complexions would allow us in one day (I know- it is ridiculously sad how pale we are) we headed down to Lahaina to do some good old fashioned tourism.

Along the way we came across this awesome tree called a Banyan tree. It was planted in 1873 and the original tree has branched out and sent roots down to the ground that have grown into what almost look like new tree trunks. It is difficult to describe, but pretty awesome to see.
This looks like a separate group of trees, but it is actually where the original tree has sent down roots into the ground to create a new trunk. This is one of the largest Banyan trees in the world and covers about 2/3 of an acre.
